The Belfast City Mission had always been looking to develop new work in needy areas of Belfast. Sometimes opportunities were presented for this in the wider districts.
One example of this was within the area of Woodford/Ballyduff.
This was accomplished by the commencement of a witness from a Mission Centre above the Woodford Shops in the Ballyduff area.
This work was taken up by the then Missionary Mr Raymond Hume on the 19th May 1988. Mr Hume had joined the Mission in February 1988 and had served in the then Ardglen Hall for a short period.
The work began to be established and began to grow steadily with a Girls Brigade Company formed in 1993. During this period the Mission had been searching for ground in the Ballyduff estate on which to build a new hall. This was finally realised when the Housing Executive offered the Mission the opportunity to purchase a suitable site in 1994.
The new hall was completed and opened in 1995 on the Fairview Road. After 12 years of faithful service in the district Mr Hume transferred to the Mountcollyer Hall with Mr Adrian Adger appointed to carry on the work after serving as Missionary in the Disraeli Street Hall.
Mr Adger left the Mission in 2009 to join Mission Africa and subsequently to Ministry in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
Mr Alan Martin took charge in January 2010 after serving in the Canton Street Hall for 4 years. Alan served until 2023 when he felt called into the sphere of politics.
Mr Mark Porter joined the staff of Belfast City Mission in June 2023.
As with all the Belfast City Mission Halls and districts the Fairview Road Hall aims and continues to be a beacon of light for the Gospel of Christ Jesus in the Ballyduff estate with a deep love for the community at large.
