North Belfast
During the early 70`s many new housing developments began to emerge. One of these was the Glencairn estate. Along with other areas the Belfast City Mission continued to have the vision to reach out into these particular estates. Subsequently in September 1973 a new hall was opened in Glencairn in the vicinity of Ballygomartin. Previously to this the thought had been that the Presbyterian Church in Ireland would establish a Church extension here however, it did not materialise thus leaving the way clear for the Mission to take responsibility for building a hall and commence a work in the area.
During the years there have been several Missionaries who have served in the district. Mr. Brian Clenaghan 73-79; Mr Tom Armstrong 79-80 (interim); Mr Laurence Ferguson 81-83; Mr Raymond McLarnin 83-87. The present Missionary Mr George Lunn was appointed to the Mission on the 1st November 1986 and commenced service in Glencairn district 7th January 1987. George has seen the work of Glencairn grow steadily throughout the years with a new hall being opened in November 2000 to resource this growth. Also during this period George was assisted by a number of Missionaries, Mr Rodger McElnea, Mr Michael Waddell, Mr David Murphy and Mr Gary Bingham. The hall in Glencairn remains as a beacon of light for Christ Jesus to the community at large.
